Opening: For the last few days we have discussed THEME using the conflict of a text. Today we will identify THEME using quotes and actions of the character to reveal the theme of a text.
Instruction: Today we will learn how to use quotes from text, characters’ actions, and dialogue to determine a theme.
We will read Ch 1 of The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan with a graphic organizer to jot down quotes from text, characters' actions, and dialogue to support determining a theme. Students will Stop and Jot to plug in quotes on the organizer.
Work Session:
-I will model jotting down notes to the graphic organizer for Ch. 1. After I have modeled Ch. 1, students 'Turn and Talk' about what you saw the teacher do.
-Complete the reading Ch. 1 of Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan as a class.
Closing: Complete the jotting down of notes for Ch. 1 to the graphic organizer.
