Opening: Today I am going to teach you that characters may change from the beginning to the end of the story depending on the events. Using “The Fight” paragraphs 1-13, I will complete a mini-lesson with think aloud, on how to trace the steps of a plot using the How and Why Characters Change reading strategy. Work Session:
Read “The Fight” paragraph 21 cont’. Use the How and Why Characters Change reading strategy worksheet to record character description of the major/minor character from “The Fight”. Look through the text to identify the best textual evidence tracing a character’s thoughts, actions, and dialogue that show how a character responds or changes as the plot moves towards its resolution.

Determine why the character changed in the text “The Fight”.
